What is a Content Rating Organisation?
Content rating organisations develop tools and standards that people can use to label their websites.
RASC (The Recreational Software Advisory Council) folded and became the Internet Content Rating Association was the original content rating organisation which provided consumers with information on levels of nudity and violence listed on websites.
RASC folded and became the Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA) (www.fosi.org/icra) in 1999 and launched a new labeling system in 2000. ICRA is part of the Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI) an international non-profit organisation whose mission is ‘to identify best practices, tools and methods in the field of online safety.’
Other content rating organisations include SafeSurf (www.safesurf.com).
This activity is closely related to Cyber Bullying and needs to be addressed.
