Objectives
2.2.1. Overall Aim
The primary aim of this project was to measure the performance impact of applying server based Internet content filtering applications and appliances to an Internet feed in both live and controlled environments to determine:
- any degradation of speed/performance,
- the typical filtering accuracy achieved and finally
- the effect of filtering on the user experience when using broadband Internet services.
2.2.2. Objectives
As the take-up of broadband Internet services increases, many more users are becoming conscious of the performance increase over dialup systems but may be sensitive to any degradation in performance that may occur through the introduction of server based content filters. This study was designed to provide more information about the performance and accuracy of server based content filters and to gauge the user reaction to broadband when filters are used.
