What are the Dangers of Internet Addiction?

There a range of dangers which exist for children who excessively use the Internet.

The major concerns include:

  • Health Problems. Strained eyes, headaches, obesity or children generally becoming generally unwell.
  • Becoming Introverted. All of a sudden children are not communicating well with their peers or family.
  • Forming Online Relationships. Paedophiles may be making contact with children and grooming them for real life meetings.
  • Exposure to Inappropriate Materials. Viewing inappropriate content such as pornography or violent materials may lead to real life issues.
  • Scams. Children being exposed to various online scams and tricks set up by online criminals.
  • Alone in the Bedroom. Children spending excessive amounts of time alone in the bedroom on the Internet can be a recipe for disaster.
  • Financial Issues. Children may become addicted to an online game or service which requires money to play. This may become a financial issue for some families.
  • Withdrawal Symptoms. Children may display withdrawal symptoms when they are away from the Internet and their behaviour may change for the worse.
