What is Online Grooming?

Online grooming is defined by Home Office in the UK as:

  • "A course of conduct enacted by a suspected paedophile, which would give a reasonable person cause for concern that any meeting with a child arising from the conduct would be for unlawful purposes."

and in Australia by the Australian Institute of Criminology (www.aic.gov.au) A typology of online child pornography offending as:

  • "The online groomer is a person who has initiated online contact with a child with the intention of establishing a sexual relationship involving cyber sex or physical sex."
