What does the Padlock or HTTPS Symbol mean on my Browser?
A padlock symbol is displayed by some web browsers (usually in the status bar in the bottom right hand corner) to indicate you are viewing a secure web page.
You can also tell if you are viewing a secure web page by looking at the text before the website name at the top of your browser, in the address bar.
If you see 'https', the page is secure and you know whatever data you enter onto the page will be sent across the Internet securely.
It is extremely unlikely the information can be intercepted and used by a third party for illegal reasons.
If the characters you see however, are 'http', the web page you are viewing is not secure.
