How do I stop Pop Ups on my Machine?

There are a number of ways to stop pop ups. You may wish to try any number of the following suggestions.

  • Install 3rd Party software: Install a 3rd party pop up stopper program.
  • Google Toolbar: A pop up blocker is supplied free with the search engine toolbar from Google (www.google.com).
The blocker enables you to configure which websites you wish pop ups to appear on and those you do not.
You can download it from: toolbar.google.com.
  • Browser Options: A number of popular browsers (Safari (www.apple.com/safari), Mozilla (www.mozilla.org), Opera (www.opera.com) and Netscape (www.netscape.com) for example) allow you to configure them to block pop ups. Check the help systems of these programs.
  • Windows XP: Users of Windows XP who have upgraded to Service Pack 2 (SP2) will find the Microsoft (www.microsoft.com) pop up stopper to work with Internet Explorer.
  • CTRL and W keys: You can also press the CTRL and W keys together to close down windows which pop up.
This is especially handy for those windows which take up the full screen not letting you close them.
